Dazen joined us on this side of the world on September 24th, 2020.

 

He was born at 5:10 pm at Overlake Hospital and weighed 7 lbs 11 oz and was 21" long.

 

After 15 hours of labor, we had an unplanned cesarean section due to pre-eclampsia. Being the anatomy-loving nerd that I am, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the surgery; and in my usual way, was joking with the doctor while the birthing was happening!

 

The name Dazen comes from a character Jared and I both love in the Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks. This character is a compassionate, selfless leader with a mind for ingenuity. The name Daro comes from a book series called Red Rising, where the character (spelled Darrow) is an epic leader and slavery abolitionist. The name Darrow in Kurdish means Prince or Monarch, and in Serbian means "talented one".
